Chelsea are on the prowl for a new coach after axing Liam Rosenior, who had replaced Enzo Maresca, after just four months, and Cesc Fabregas is among their targets for next season. They turned to caretaker manager Calum McFarlane after losing seven of eight matches. The current Como manager is a natural candidate for the job, given his previous stint in London as a player, La Repubblica informs.

The Blues had poached the gaffer from their sister team, Strasbourg, after parting ways with the Italian tactician. However, he led them to one of their worst stretches in recent history. According to Sportitalia, the frontrunner is currently Filipe Luis, who also spent time at Stamford Bridge. He had immediate success while helming Flamengo.

In addition to the Brazilian manager and Fabregas, Chelsea are eyeing two Premier League veterans, Andoni Iraola and Oliver Glasner. They announced they’d leave Bournemouth and Crystal Palace, respectively, at the end of the campaign. Moreover, McFarlane will have a shot at the permanent job if he fares exceptionally well down the stretch.

Per Fabrizio Romano (via SOSFanta), the former Barcelona and Arsenal legend is completely focused on Como. The Lariani are convinced he’ll stay for at least another season since he’s itching to guide them in Europe.

He skirted the question over the weekend, as natural since they are fighting for prestigious goals, but all signs point toward his permanence, unless more alluring openings that represent unique opportunities pop up. He’ll have his pick of the litter when he decides it’s time to move on, while he’d take over a messy situation at Stamford Bridge.
