The Community School of Naples Seahawks saw their remarkable season come to a close in the Class 1A state semifinals, falling to the nation's top-ranked program, American Heritage-Delray, in a hard-fought 14-3 matchup. Though the final score may not reflect it, this Seahawks squad showed tremendous growth from their regular-season meeting with the Stallions, when they lost 18-5 nearly three months prior.
Right from the opening draw, Heritage-Delray came out firing. Florida State commit Madison Vargas wasted no time, scoring on the Stallions' very first possession. Brown commit Jamie Woelfel quickly followed suit, and a wave of attacking talent kept the pressure on. Penn State commit Hali Horvath and Columbia commit Lily Svirky worked brilliantly around the crease, helping Heritage-Delray build a commanding 5-0 lead by the end of the first quarter.
But the Seahawks weren't about to back down. In goal, University of Louisville commit Sophia Dapper stood tall, making several impressive saves that kept her team in the contest. Her performance matched the excellence of Heritage-Delray's Ashley Egbert, proving that Community School's netminder could go toe-to-toe with the best.
What makes this Seahawks team so special? Youth and unity. With 12 underclassmen on the roster, this squad is built for the future. As Dapper said earlier this week, "We've grown up and become a unit. There's so many new girls who've joined, and now we're all just sort of formed as one, and we're one big family." That family bond was evident throughout the season, even in the face of a tough opponent.
The second quarter saw Svirky take over, applying relentless pressure on net and scoring four goals in the first half alone. As the NFHS Network broadcast announcers put it, "It's looking like a carousel out there with these rotations, and the Stallions cannot be stopped." Heritage-Delray's offensive firepower proved too much, and the Seahawks found themselves in a 10-1 halftime hole.
Community School didn't find the back of the net until the final minute of the first half, but that moment symbolized the fight this team has shown all season. While the 11-point loss stings, this young Seahawks squad has plenty to be proud of—and plenty to build on for next year. For a team that started the season with a lopsided loss to the same powerhouse, their improvement speaks volumes about their resilience and potential.
