Following the Colts' latest addition at safety in free agency, here is an updated look at that depth chart.

The Indianapolis Colts continue to fortify their secondary, adding veteran safety Nasir Adderley in free agency. This marks the third safety signing of the offseason for Indy, signaling a clear intent to bolster a crucial defensive unit.

Adderley, a former second-round pick by the LA Chargers in 2019, brings starting experience but also a significant question mark. He hasn't played since the 2022 season, having stepped away from the game in 2023. In his last active years, he was a consistent presence, starting 44 games over three seasons and proving to be a reliable tackler.

His arrival reshuffles the deck in the defensive backfield. Adderley's primary experience is at free safety, positioning him as a potential backup and challenger to projected starter Cam Bynum. His path to the final 53-man roster, however, is not guaranteed after his year away from the NFL grind.

The real competition is heating up at the strong safety spot next to Bynum. A trio of Jonathan Owens, Juanyeh Thomas, and rookie Hunter Wohler is expected to battle for that starting role. This influx of talent creates a healthy, competitive environment where the best performer will earn the right to patrol the middle of the field.

While the depth chart is now crowded, the Colts' work may not be done. The upcoming NFL Draft still presents an opportunity to add a dynamic, young playmaker to the safety room. What was once a glaring need has been addressed with veteran depth, giving General Manager Chris Ballard flexibility to select the best player available, whether at safety or another position.

For Colts fans and fantasy defenders alike, this upgraded secondary promises more impactful plays and tighter coverage. As the competition unfolds through training camp, it will be a key storyline to watch in Indianapolis's quest to reclaim the AFC South.
