The Colorado Rockies are hoping to salvage some pride as they take on the New York Mets in the final game of their homestand. After a promising sweep of the Mets in Queens just over a week ago, the Rockies have hit a rough patch, dropping six straight games. Now, they face the very real possibility of being swept at home by the same team they dominated on the road. With temperatures warming up, the Rockies will look to heat up their bats and avoid a seventh consecutive loss.
Taking the mound for the Rockies is left-hander José Quintana, who is coming off one of his strongest outings of the season. Against the Atlanta Braves, Quintana delivered six solid innings, allowing just one earned run on a solo home run while striking out three. Unfortunately, the Rockies' bullpen couldn't hold the lead, and Quintana left with a no-decision in an eventual loss. He'll be looking to replicate that performance and give his team a chance to break the losing streak.
Opposing him will be Mets right-hander Christian Scott, a 26-year-old who made his MLB debut in 2024 with a 4.56 ERA over nine starts. After missing the entire 2025 season due to Tommy John surgery with internal bracing, Scott is back and healthy. He began this season with Triple-A Syracuse but has been called up twice to start for the big league club. His first outing was a struggle, lasting just 1.1 innings while walking five batters, hitting one, and committing a balk. However, his second start was a stark improvement: he struck out eight batters without issuing a single walk, allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits.
Scott has faced the Rockies once before, surrendering three earned runs on seven hits—including two home runs—over 4.1 innings. This season, he's working with a five-pitch arsenal that includes a mid-90s four-seam fastball, cutter, sweeper, sinker, and split finger. The Rockies will need to be patient and capitalize on any mistakes to get to him early.
As the Rockies look to avoid the sweep, all eyes will be on Quintana to set the tone and the offense to provide some much-needed support. It's the last game of the homestand, and a win could be just what the team needs to turn things around.
