When a goaltender is on fire, there's no stopping him—and Trent Miner is proving to be the Colorado Eagles' secret weapon this postseason. In a commanding Game 3 performance, Miner posted his third shutout of the Calder Cup Playoffs, stopping all 20 shots he faced as the Eagles overwhelmed the Henderson Silver Knights 4-0 at Blue Arena on Wednesday night. The win gives Colorado a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five Pacific Division Semifinals, setting the stage for a pivotal Game 4 on Saturday.
Forward Tristen Nielsen was the offensive star of the night, lighting the lamp twice, while Alex Barre-Boulet dished out three assists to keep the momentum rolling. The Eagles' defense was equally impressive, stifling Henderson's attack and keeping the Silver Knights off the scoreboard for the full 60 minutes.
The first period was a grind, with both teams trading physical checks and power-play opportunities. Neither side could find the back of the net, but Miner was already in top form, controlling rebounds and snuffing out any second-chance bids from Henderson. The game remained scoreless through the opening frame, setting up a second-period explosion from the home team.
Colorado came out firing in the middle period. Defenseman Alex Gagne broke the deadlock at 3:21, blasting a slapshot from the point through traffic to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. Just 94 seconds later, forward Tye Felhaber doubled the advantage, ripping a wrist shot from the slot past Henderson netminder Carl Lindbom. The Eagles kept the pressure on, outshooting the Silver Knights 11-3 in the period. A costly turnover by Henderson led to Nielsen's first goal—a one-timer from the right circle with 6:14 left in the second—making it 3-0 heading into the final frame.
Henderson tried to rally in the third period, but Miner remained a brick wall, turning aside every chance that came his way. With Lindbom pulled for an extra attacker in the final minute, Nielsen sealed the victory with an empty-net goal at 19:44, capping off a dominant night for the Eagles.
Lindbom finished with 26 saves on 29 shots in the loss, while Colorado went 0-for-4 on the power play but killed its lone penalty effectively. For fans of the Eagles, this is a team clicking at the right time—and if Miner keeps this up, they'll be tough to beat in any arena.
