Clemson women's basketball is making serious moves in the transfer portal, and head coach Shawn Poppie isn't slowing down. The Tigers have added another key piece to their frontcourt with the commitment of Yakiya Milton, a 6-foot-5 forward transferring from USC.
Milton, a Jacksonville, Florida native, brings a wealth of high-major experience to Clemson. She spent last season with the Trojans after playing two years at Auburn. Her size and athleticism fit perfectly into Poppie's vision for a longer, more dynamic frontcourt—a clear area of need after last season's interior struggles.
This pickup comes hot on the heels of landing 6-foot-4 Saint Mary's transfer Edie Clarke from Melbourne, Australia. Together, these two additions signal a deliberate strategy: Clemson is loading up on length, depth, and defensive versatility to compete in the ACC.
While Milton's stats at USC weren't eye-popping—averaging 2.3 points and 2.9 rebounds in 16 games—her impact goes beyond the box score. Playing behind a loaded Trojans roster, she still flashed serious potential. Her career-high 12 rebounds against Portland and four blocks against Cal Poly show exactly what she can bring: elite rebounding, rim protection, and a disruptive defensive presence.
Poppie himself highlighted Milton's upside, praising her length, athleticism, and ability to guard multiple positions. "She can defend, protect the rim, and rebound at a high level," he noted. The offensive game may still be developing, but the defensive toolkit is already polished and ready for ACC competition.
Milton also brings valuable experience from the SEC (Auburn) and Big Ten (USC)—conference battles that should serve her well as Clemson continues its climb. She appeared in 19 games for Auburn in 2024-25 after missing the first 11 due to injury, and she played in 25 games as a freshman. That versatility and resilience make her a smart addition for a program on the rise.
Welcome to the family, Yakiya Milton. The Tigers' frontcourt just got a whole lot more interesting.
