College Performance: Antonio Williams was a bit of a mixed bag at Clemson. Despite being primarily a slot receiver, the Tigers were forced to rely on him in a number of ways due to injuries, poor WR play, and just overall offensive crisis’s during his time at Clemson. Williams showed some excellent speed off the line, but could struggle to create separation afterwards. And while he had some nice hands, it did seem like he wouldn’t come through in key moments, with some notable drops. Overall Williams did well while with the Tigers, but he really showed that he needed at least one other WR on the field to force defenses to make decisions.
NFL Projections: Unsurprisingly, Williams is seen as a slot guy in the NFL. The concern with most scouts is how he’s going to do creating separation. Speed off the line only gets you so far and Williams will have to learn some of the dark arts of WR play, especially if he’s going to stick in the slot. His versatility does give teams options and it wouldn’t be surprising for him to be used in unusual ways, especially with the right offensive staff.
