The Cincinnati Reds have performed well in 2026 despite dealing with multiple injury concerns. Veteran slugger Eugenio Suarez as well as starting pitchers Hunter Greene and Nick Lodolo are among the players who are currently out with injuries. All three players recently received injury updates, via Charlie Goldsmith.
Suarez is dealing with an oblique injury. Greene and Lodolo landed on the injured list before the season, as Greene deals with an elbow injury and Lodolo battles a blister on his pitching hand.
Goldsmith reports that Suarez has an upcoming MRI. That should help to provide a timeline for his injury return. Meanwhile, Greene is reportedly around three weeks from throwing bullpens and is currently throwing up to 110 feet. Before the season, it was reported that Greene could return in July. Lodolo has a rehab start coming up on Saturday.
Lodolo has continued to miss time with the blister concern on his finger. It has impacted his grip on the baseball. As long as no setbacks occur, it seems as if he could return sooner rather than later. His next rehab start will be pivotal.
Suarez's timeline is uncertain. Oblique injuries can be difficult to prediction timelines for. The injury was initially referred to as mild, so that is an encouraging sign.
Greene's July timeline still seems realistic. However, Cincinnati is not going to bring him back until he is completely ready to go. Teams never want to rush a player back, and that is especially true for a pitcher who has dealt with an elbow injury.
The Reds have played a quality brand of baseball despite all of the injuries on the roster. The pitching is performing well enough while the offense has out-performed expectations. Of course, having arguably the best manager in the game in Terry Francona helps matters.
Cincinnati looks like a legitimate contending ball club at the moment. Reaching the World Series is unquestionably going to be a challenge for any team in the National League given the presence of the Los Angeles Dodgers. but the Reds should be able to have a legitimate opportunity to win the National League Central division.
The team will only get stronger once players such as Eugenio Suarez, Hunter Greene and Nick Lodolo return from their injuries. Updates will continue to be monitored and provided on the players' injury statuses as they are made available.
