After guiding Appleton North to historic heights—including the program's first-ever conference title and a state tournament run—head coach Chris Kellett has announced he is stepping down.
In a heartfelt social media post, Kellett explained that the decision came from a desire to prioritize his family. "This decision to step away was not because of a lack of appreciation or love for Appleton North," he wrote. "This program, the players, and this community mean a great deal to me. However, the time away from my family has taken a toll, and I feel it is important for me to be more present and invest in helping develop my own children."
Kellett's tenure was marked by a remarkable 2024-2025 season, where the Lightning posted a stellar 24-5 record. The team was powered by standout seniors Will Sweeney, Nathan Ramus, and Grant Hardy, who led Appleton North to the WIAA state semifinals before falling to powerhouse Wisconsin Lutheran.
The news has resonated deeply within the Wisconsin high school basketball community, where Kellett was widely respected for building a winning culture both on and off the court. As the Lightning begin the search for a new leader, fans will remember a coach who gave everything to the program—and now turns his focus to his most important team: his family.
