Kansas City Chiefs rookie running back Emmett Johnson is already making a strong impression during this weekend's rookie minicamp, and it's not just his ground game that's turning heads. In a Saturday press conference, the former Nebraska standout opened up about his comfort level as a receiver out of the backfield—a skill set that could prove invaluable in the Chiefs' high-powered offense.

"I love it, man. Especially, like I said, I can receive really well, and I know that can help the offense," Johnson said with clear enthusiasm. "Just having the ability to not just run the ball, but also catch and affect the game that way, it's something that I look forward to."

Johnson's confidence is backed by solid production. Over four seasons with the Cornhuskers, he appeared in 41 games, racking up 2,460 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns on 458 carries. But his versatility as a pass-catcher is what really sets him apart: 92 receptions for 702 yards and five touchdowns. In today's NFL, where running backs are increasingly asked to be dual threats, Johnson's receiving chops could make him a perfect fit for Andy Reid's creative scheme.

The rookie also addressed his transition to the professional level, emphasizing the importance of preparation. "I feel great. It's obviously a lot of plays that happen really quickly, but I do a great job of studying, and at the end of the day, I'm playing in the NFL," Johnson explained. "I have no excuse for not knowing my assignment on the football field, so I take big pride in understanding what I have to do on the field to be successful."

Johnson's dedication isn't limited to the gridiron. He earned first-team All-Big Ten honors and was named Academic All-Big Ten from 2023 to 2025, showcasing a well-rounded approach that any team would value. For Chiefs fans, this kind of work ethic and versatility could spell trouble for opposing defenses—and a new favorite player to watch in the backfield.
