Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Justin Fields spoke with reporters via Zoom recently, revealing his experience being drafted in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft.
“It was awesome. I remember it like it was yesterday. Just being at home with my family and really just hearing your name called. Of course, it’s a little bit nerve racking (and) you might be a little bit anxious, but when you do receive that call, you look back on all of the hard work.” said Fields, “Not only that you put in, but my parents as well. Even now, I look at old pictures of me playing football when I was eight years old, and I just think to myself that God really chose me to be in this position, so I never take it for granted, being where I am now, and just being grateful for everything that I have.”
Fields was the No. 11 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft and was highly rated out of Ohio State by the Chicago Bears. While in Chicago, he set the single-game regular season record for quarterback rushing yards and became the third NFL quarterback ever to have a 1,000-yard rushing season.
Kansas City is scheduled to have two first-round picks tonight as the 2026 NFL Draft gets underway in Pittsburgh.
