The Chicago Sky have been stuck in a rut for the past three seasons, failing to finish above .500. But this year, there's a fresh wave of optimism surrounding the team—and it's about time the results back it up.

It's easy to talk big during the preseason, to paint yourself as a contender with championship dreams. But for a franchise that has struggled more often than not, talk is cheap. The Sky know they need to prove they're serious about turning things around.

"We knew that earning the respect of free agents and retaining players that were here was going to take some real sincerity and a genuine plan from our end of who we wanted to be," said general manager Jeff Pagliocca during the team's media day on April 30.

Pagliocca is confident that the roster overhaul will make a difference. "Looking at our roster now, you see more of an athletic group, shot-creating group, some more size, more versatility than we've had over the last couple of seasons," he explained. "We're really going to go after being a very, very competitive group."

That's exactly what fans want to hear—but the proof will be on the court. With a more dynamic lineup and a renewed sense of purpose, the Sky have the pieces to finally break their losing streak. Now, it's time to see if they can turn preseason promise into regular-season wins.
