As the regular season winds down, the Chariho softball team is writing a storybook campaign—and their latest chapter was a Senior Day to remember. The Chargers inched closer to an undefeated regular season with a crisp 4-1 victory over a tough St. Raphael squad, showcasing the kind of all-around performance that has defined their year.
In the circle, junior ace Adriana Jeannenot was simply dominant. She fired a complete-game gem, striking out 13 batters while allowing just two hits and one walk over seven efficient innings. Her 79-pitch outing was a masterclass in control and composure, keeping the Saints' hitters off balance all afternoon. The only blemish came on a solo homer by St. Raphael's Izzy Sousa in the fourth inning, but that was all the offense the visitors could muster.
Chariho's offense, meanwhile, did just enough to support their star pitcher. The Chargers scratched out runs in the early innings, starting in the first when Kaelyn Comerford's single set the stage for pinch runner Gabriella Ricci to score on a wild pitch. In the second, Norah Downing bunted for a single and Ella Alves followed with a ground-rule double, setting up a two-run rally on a dropped fly ball to right field. That 3-0 lead felt like a mountain for St. Raphael to climb against Jeannenot.
Senior shortstop Anna Tretton, playing in her final home game, provided a spark in the fifth inning with a one-out triple to right-center. Jeannenot then helped her own cause with a sacrifice fly to right, pushing the lead back to three runs and giving the defense all the cushion it needed.
"It's really awesome," Tretton said after the game. "From freshman year all the way to here, it feels really good to be able to have such a great season so far."
With the win, Chariho stands just one victory away from entering the playoffs with a perfect record. The only remaining obstacle? A trip to Cumberland next week. But if Friday's performance is any indication, the Chargers are peaking at the perfect time—with airtight defense, timely hitting, and a pitcher who looks nearly untouchable.
