Trent Moorhead is the new boys basketball coach at Center Grove.
Moorhead led Hauser to a 79-27 record in his four seasons at the school, including back-to-back Class A semistate appearances and three consecutive undefeated Mid-Hoosier Conference championships.
Moorhead replaces Zach Hahn, who previously announced his plans to step down after posting a 176-118 record in 12 seasons as coach.
“Trent has proven he knows how to build a program, not just win games, but develop young men and create a culture of excellence,” Center Grove athletic director Joe Bronkella said in a release from the school. “What truly sets him apart is his energy, his passion for the game, and his deep knowledge of basketball. His enthusiasm is contagious, and we are confident he is the right leader to guide Trojan basketball into its next chapter.”
Moorhead, whose hiring is expected to be approved at the May school board meeting, is the grandson of Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame coach Gus Moorhead and son of former South Dearborn coach Rob Moorhead. His brother, Brad, is a going into his second year as coach at South Dearborn.
Moorhead is an Indiana University graduate. Hauser was his first head coaching position.
“I am incredibly excited and honored to lead the boys’ basketball program at Center Grove High School,” Moorhead said. “Center Grove is a first-class district and one of the most respected schools in the state of Indiana. Their high standards for both academics and athletics make them an exceptional community for developing well-rounded, high-performing student-athletes. I want to thank Mr. Joe Bronkella and the rest of the Center Grove administration for placing their trust in me to develop and lead a competitive program with a positive culture that will drive our players to be the best versions of themselves on and off the court. My wife, Bre, and I, along with our daughter, Juliette, cannot wait to become a part of the Trojan community.”
Center Grove was 8-13 last year. The Trojans’ top two scorers were juniors Klinton South (10.7 ppg) and Zavier Laney (10.3 ppg).
