Granja Comary, the Brazilian Football Confederation's (CBF) training center, recently played host to the inaugural TDS FIFA Development Scheme—an elite youth coaching workshop aimed at shaping the future stars of Brazilian football. This collaborative effort brought together the CBF Men's National Teams Department, the CBF Projects and Development Directorate, and the CBF Academy, with full support from FIFA.
The workshop wasn't just another seminar; it was a strategic gathering designed to align and elevate the standards of youth development across all of Brazil's men's national team categories. Coaches, fitness trainers, analysts, and technical staff from the under-15, under-16, under-17, under-20, and senior national teams came together for three days of lectures, debates, and knowledge exchange. Club representatives and specialists in youth player development also joined the conversation, creating a rich environment for sharing best practices.
At the heart of the initiative was the goal of improving and harmonizing coaching concepts through open dialogue between CBF professionals and club academy staff. The FIFA Talent Development Scheme (TDS), an arm of world football's governing body, was established precisely to organize, qualify, and accelerate talent development globally. Leading the event were FIFA high-performance specialist Diogo Matos, along with technical specialists Fernando Brassard and Miguel Alonso—all experienced professionals in coach education and high-performance certification programs.
Over the course of the workshop, the main pillars of youth national team play were thoroughly discussed, all with an eye toward the comprehensive development of Brazil's young football prospects. The discussions covered tactical, physical, and mental aspects, emphasizing that true development goes beyond what happens on the pitch.
A highlight of the seminar was the opening address by Brazil senior national team head coach Carlo Ancelotti, a strong advocate for quality development that prioritizes the human element above technical and tactical concerns. Since taking charge of the Seleção, Ancelotti has maintained direct contact with youth national team managers, underscoring his commitment to a unified approach. In his speech, he stressed that player preparation must recognize the athlete as a human being first and foremost. "Behind every great player is a person," Ancelotti reminded the audience, emphasizing that the three pillars of development—tactical, physical, and mental—must go hand in hand with preparing athletes for life beyond football.
For fans and followers of the beautiful game, this workshop signals a renewed commitment to nurturing Brazil's next generation of talent, ensuring that the country's rich footballing legacy continues to thrive.
