The Cleveland Cavaliers have been a tale of two teams this postseason. At Rocket Arena, they've been an absolute buzzsaw—elite on both ends of the floor, with their core four delivering superstar performances. But on the road? They've looked ordinary at best. From multiple fourth-quarter collapses in Games 4 and 6 against the Toronto Raptors to similar struggles in Games 1 and 2 against the Detroit Pistons, the Cavs have yet to find their rhythm away from home.
As they head into Game 5 in Detroit, the question is simple: Can they finally grab that elusive road win? To advance to the conference finals, Cleveland needs at least one victory away from home. Why not make it Game 5?
The key to stealing this game lies in containing Pistons star Cade Cunningham. At home this postseason, Cunningham has been a force, averaging 31.8 points and 8.2 assists on 50% shooting over six games. That's a significant jump from his road performances, including the two games in Cleveland where he was far from his best. The Cavs found some success in Game 4 by trapping him more aggressively than they had at any point in the series.
"Just try to get in his way," said Cavs center Jarrett Allen on Monday. "Make sure he rethinks every pass he's going to take. Make sure every drive to the lane has someone there to bump him, contest him. Make everything as hard as we can for him."
Whether the Cavs can execute that game plan in enemy territory will determine if they can steal homecourt advantage and take control of this series.
