Cleveland is learning what everyone already knew.

The Cleveland Cavaliers took a calculated risk when they traded for James Harden midseason. On paper, it made perfect sense. But as his former teams in Houston, Brooklyn, and Philadelphia can attest, there's a pattern here that's all too familiar—and it's playing out once again in the playoffs.

When the Cavs made the deal, they sent Darius Garland packing. Yes, Garland is younger and has potential, but his injury history and inability to elevate Cleveland in the postseason made him expendable. With a roster full of timeline-aligned contracts, something had to give. The gamble was logical, even necessary.

Fast forward to Thursday night in Detroit, and that logic is being tested. Harden shot just 3-for-13 from the floor, missing all four of his three-point attempts. He had more turnovers (4) than assists (3). To be fair, not every miss was his fault—sometimes shots just don't fall, and a few of his passes deserved better finishes. But the narrative is stubborn, and with the Cavs now staring at a 2-0 series deficit, it's getting harder to ignore.

This isn't to say Harden shrinks in every playoff moment. He's had his share of big games. But the results tell a consistent story, and Cleveland fans are starting to recognize the tune. It's the same one his former teams know all too well—like a song you've heard one too many times.

And if you need a soundtrack for this déjà vu, well, Taylor Swift said it best: "Maybe we got lost in translation, maybe I asked for too much."
