Spain are one of the favourites to win the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Having won the European Championships in 2024, many expect Spain to complete the double, just as they did back in 2008/2010.
Appearing as a guest on the ‘Iguales‘ podcast, the world number two was asked for his thoughts on the 2026 FIFA World Cup and Spain’s chances of lifting the trophy.
“I’m super excited. I’m really confident,” said Alcaraz.
“I always say we have a young team, and they’ve already shown that they don’t care about the pressure or what people say.
“I don’t want to go around saying ‘They are going to win’, far from it.
“But I do have confidence in every player, I have confidence in the national team, I think we’re going to do really well in the World Cup.”
Spain have been drawn in Group H, alongside Uruguay, Cape Verde, and Saudi Arabia.
They shouldn’t have too much trouble making it out of that group, especially if they have star player Lamine Yamal fit.
Alcaraz was asked if he believes Yamal would have started for Spain’s 2010 World Cup winning side.
“But that’s because the experience factor would come into play more than his skills as a player.
“I think the experience factor would play a much bigger role than his quality and skills as a player.
Yamal will play a crucial role in Spain’s title campaign this summer, although his fitness is now in doubt.
The youngster suffered an injury during Barcelona’s win over Celta Vigo in midweek.
It’s unclear how long Yamal will be out for, but it’s certainly a worry.
And he’s not the only Spaniard set for a spell on the sidelines…
Looking to bounce back from his Monte Carlo Masters final defeat to Jannik Sinner, Alcaraz returned home for his beloved Barcelona Open.
Disaster struck in his first-round match, though, as he injured his wrist during his win over Otto Virtanen.
Alcaraz pulled out of the tournament the next day and has since announced his withdrawal from the Madrid Open as well.
Speaking during the Laureus Sports Awards in Madrid, Alcaraz seemed unsure over his participation at the second Grand Slam of the year.
