Cam Young is on fire this season, and his performance at the Cadillac Championship has taken things to another level entirely. With a win at The Players Championship and three top-five finishes in just eight starts this year, the 28-year-old has proven he's not just one of the best—he's the most in-form golfer on the planet right now.
Heading into the final round at Trump National Doral, Young holds a commanding six-shot lead. If he plays anywhere near the level he's shown over the first three days, closing out his third PGA Tour title on Sunday should be a formality. Currently ranked fourth in the world, he's living up to—and arguably surpassing—that billing this week.
The Blue Monster at Doral is no walk in the park. As the second-longest course on the PGA Tour (behind only Torrey Pines' South Course), it's tested the entire field, especially with Miami's combination of wind and intense heat. The course has been baking out, getting firmer by the day, and most players have struggled to adapt. But Young? He's made it look effortless.
After his impressive third-round 70 on Saturday, Young shared his honest thoughts on the course conditions. "Fairways are really good. The greens are starting to dry out a little bit just with the wind and the sun. But obviously that's not going to be a problem tomorrow," he said. "Yeah, I think the course has held up great. The rough is doable but still penal in the wrong places and, yeah, I think they did a really nice job of it."
When asked why Doral suits his game so perfectly, Young didn't hesitate. "I think I tend to play well at difficult golf courses, difficult setups, difficult conditions. This is all of those things. I think it plays into my hands a little bit. Mentally it's a little easier for me."
For fans watching at home, it's the kind of dominance that makes you appreciate just how dialed in a golfer can get—and makes you wonder what gear he's packing in that bag.
