Calais Campbell is doing something that few NFL players ever achieve—he's proving that age is just a number. The six-time Pro Bowler has signed a one-year deal with the Baltimore Ravens, kicking off what will be his 19th season in the league. According to CBS Sports NFL insider Jonathan Jones, this move puts Campbell on the cusp of history.

When Campbell turns 40 on September 1, he'll become just the third defensive lineman in NFL history to play into his 40s, joining legends Bruce Smith and Jim Marshall. That's elite company for a player who has been defying Father Time for years.

The Ravens know Campbell well. After starting his career with the Cardinals for nine seasons and then spending three years with the Jaguars, he played in Baltimore from 2020 to 2022, earning a Pro Bowl nod in 2020. Since then, he's bounced around—Falcons in 2023, Dolphins in 2024, and back to the Cardinals last season—but he's never stopped producing.

Last year in Arizona, Campbell played a bigger role than expected, logging 643 snaps (499 on defense) and recording 6.5 sacks—tying his best output in seven years. Pro Football Focus graded him as the No. 23 interior defensive lineman out of 127, with particularly high marks against the run. His leadership also stood out; he was the 2019 Walter Payton Man of the Year and the 2023 Alan Page Community Award winner.

At 6-foot-8, Campbell is a physical freak who disrupts plays even when he can't reach the quarterback. His 65 career passes defended are the seventh-most by a defensive lineman since 1999, when the stat was first tracked. And with 117 career sacks—tied for 25th all-time and fourth among active players—he's still a force to be reckoned with.

There's a fun twist to this story: Campbell is just a few years younger than his new head coach, 42-year-old Jesse Minter, and nearly a decade older than Baltimore's offensive coordinator, Declan Doyle. But Campbell isn't just a veteran presence—he's still getting it done on the field.

The Ravens have been busy building their defensive line. After a potential trade for Maxx Crosby fell through earlier this offseason, Baltimore pivoted and signed star pass rusher Trey Hendrickson, the 2024 NFL sack leader. Adding Campbell to the mix gives the Ravens a veteran anchor who can still bring the heat, making their defense even more formidable.

For fans who love seeing legends defy the odds, Campbell's return is a reminder that hard work and passion can keep you in the game longer than anyone expects. And for the Ravens, it's a smart move that adds depth, experience, and a proven winner to their roster.
