When veteran defensive lineman Calais Campbell got the call from Ravens General Manager Eric DeCosta this offseason, it wasn't exactly a bolt from the blue. The two have kept in touch over the years, with DeCosta frequently checking in about a potential reunion in Baltimore.
Campbell, who suited up for the Ravens from 2020 to 2022, recently shared on the team's podcast that while a return to Arizona was on the table and other teams showed interest, Baltimore felt like the right fit for what he wants to accomplish this season.
"This year there was a lot more pressure than years past," Campbell admitted. "Eric DeCosta called pretty much every year, but this year was more like 'I gotta have you. This could make a big difference.' I felt that. I believe that this team has all the tools to win."
For a player who's built a legacy on disrupting offenses and anchoring defensive lines, the decision came down to a simple equation: "Where can I go where I can make plays and win games? Baltimore made the most sense when it came down to that."
Campbell already knows what playoff football feels like in purple and black, having appeared in three postseason games during his first stint with the team. If the Ravens can turn that potential into production, he and his teammates could be looking at another deep January run—and maybe even a few more chances to make those game-changing plays.
