After three miserable quarters, Caitlin Clark’s heroics nearly gave the Fever an improbable win against the Mystics.

INDIANAPOLIS — Caitlin Clark spent three quarters looking like she couldn't buy a bucket. Then, in the fourth, she flipped the script with a performance that nearly delivered an improbable victory.

The Fever rookie sensation erupted for 17 of her 32 points in a thrilling final frame against the Washington Mystics, drilling five 3-pointers to drag her team back from the brink. Her fifth and most clutch triple of the quarter came in the dying seconds of regulation, forcing overtime and sending the Gainbridge Fieldhouse crowd into a frenzy.

"I felt like I could have made another five," Clark said with a grin after the game. "They're all right there. It's great to break through and get some to go down."

For much of the night, those shots weren't falling. Clark went ice cold through the first three periods, shooting just 2-of-15 from the field and 2-of-7 from beyond the arc. The Fever as a whole mirrored her struggles, connecting on only 32.8% of their field goals through three quarters. The game looked all but lost.

But the fourth quarter told a different story. Clark buried back-to-back threes within the first 90 seconds, a preview of the fireworks to come. She scored or assisted on 11 of the Fever's first 12 points in the period, with the only exception being a Monique Billings free throw that came after a foul on a Clark pass. In total, she was directly responsible for 18 of the Fever's first 21 points in the quarter, single-handedly pulling her team back into contention.

Her third triple gave Indiana a brief 70-69 lead. When she connected on her fourth, the Fever still trailed by four with just over 90 seconds remaining. But Clark wasn't finished. She kept firing, and the shots kept falling, forcing overtime in a finish that ranks among the most electrifying moments of the young WNBA season.

Though the Fever ultimately fell in the extra session, the game served as a powerful reminder of how quickly the momentum can shift when Clark has the ball in her hands. After three quarters of frustration, she showed exactly why she's one of the most must-watch players in the league — and why no lead ever feels truly safe with her on the floor.
