In high school baseball, a close game can turn on a single inning, and that's exactly what happened Thursday night in New Middletown. The Poland Bulldogs, locked in a tight battle with the Springfield Tigers, unleashed a decisive six-run explosion in the sixth inning to secure a commanding 9-3 road victory.
The Bulldogs' offense was a well-oiled machine, racking up 14 total hits. Joe Zuccaro led the charge with a stellar 4-for-5 performance, including two doubles, while Carmine Tukalo provided the power with two doubles and a triple. Kelly Memo and Zack Marantis each added two hits to fuel the relentless attack.
On the mound, Grady Pitzulo was dominant for Poland, controlling the game with 11 strikeouts over six strong innings of work. His performance kept the Tigers at bay and set the stage for the Bulldogs' game-breaking rally.
Springfield's Greyson Seifert tried to spark a comeback with two hits, but the Tigers couldn't contain Poland's late-inning surge. With the win, Poland improves to 6-3 on the season and will look to carry this momentum into their Saturday matchup against Salem. Springfield will aim to bounce back when they host Mineral Ridge on Monday.
