Field Yates believes the former Miami Hurricanes star will immediate snaps in the slot

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers entered the 2026 NFL Draft with a clear mission: inject more athleticism, upgrade defensive speed, and keep building around star quarterback Baker Mayfield. General Manager Jason Licht delivered on that vision, snagging a handful of intriguing prospects who are ready to contribute right away or grow into long-term assets.

One of the most exciting finds came on Day 3, when the Bucs landed former Miami Hurricanes standout cornerback Keionte Scott in the fourth round. ESPN draft analyst Field Yates recently named Scott an "instant impact" defender, and for good reason. "I thought Scott could sneak into Round 2, so the Buccaneers getting him in the middle of Round 4 was extremely good value," Yates wrote. "The former Miami star should get immediate snaps at nickel. He’s explosive, instinctive, and brings a potent package of vision, ball skills, and tackling intensity that translates to the NFL."

Scott’s performance in Miami’s run to the College Football Playoff National Championship only solidified that belief. He showed up when it mattered most, racking up five sacks, two forced fumbles, and two interceptions last season—numbers that scream NFL-ready.

While the Buccaneers have options in the slot, Scott’s hybrid skill set sets him apart. On the outside, the depth chart is thinner: Josh Hayes didn’t log a single defensive snap in 2025, and Damarion Williams hasn’t played regular-season snaps since 2023 with Baltimore. That means Scott could see time on the boundary too. Head coach Todd Bowles told the Tampa Bay Times, “We’re going to start Keionte out as a nickel, and we’ll see if he evolves into a safety or a corner. He can play all over the place and allow us to use six DBs some, keeping him and Jacob Parrish inside. He gives us a lot of options.”

For a team looking to tighten up its secondary, Scott looks like the kind of versatile, high-motor defender who could make an immediate splash—and maybe even become a cornerstone of the Bucs’ defense for years to come.
