Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes is on the cusp of Premier League history, and he's opened up about the significance of the milestone as he closes in on it. The Portuguese maestro was recently crowned the Premier League Player of the Month for March, a testament to his electrifying form that included two goals and four assists in just four appearances.
His performance against Aston Villa was particularly historic, as his two assists in that match saw him surpass a club legend. Fernandes now holds the record for the most assists in a single Premier League season by a Manchester United player, moving ahead of the iconic David Beckham's previous benchmark.
This latest league award is his sixth, tying him with former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo for the most by a United player. Only Premier League greats Sergio Aguero, Harry Kane, and Mohamed Salah—each with seven awards—sit above him on the all-time list.
Speaking to club media, Fernandes expressed his gratitude to the fans and reflected on the achievement. "Obviously I am always grateful, even more [because] we know that all the fans vote for it," he said. "I really appreciate that they have voted for me this month and in all of the other five that I’ve got before."
He was quick to share the credit, adding, "It was a good month, not only for me, but also for the team. So I am very happy with it." On matching Ronaldo's record, Fernandes acknowledged the company he's keeping. "Yeah, it’s always good company to be in. We know when his records are there, his name is gonna be always around... But it is obviously a huge honour and privilege for me to be close to him in this category."
When asked to pick his standout moment from March, Fernandes pointed to the crucial victory over Aston Villa, highlighting the performance and its importance in the league standings. His leadership and creative genius continue to be the driving force for United, proving that true playmakers not only break records but also elevate everyone around them.
