Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Taylen Green has already turned heads with his confidence—and a bold comparison that nearly got him into trouble. The sixth-round pick from Arkansas recently sat down with reporters during rookie minicamp and discussed his unique blend of size, speed, and athleticism. When asked which NFL quarterback he most resembles, Green didn't hold back.
"To be honest, no. I would say of course Lamar (Jackson), but he ain't 6-6. Josh Allen is close, but I'm 230. He's like 260. My dad says Randall Cunningham-ish. I really don't think there's anybody like me. Not in a like cocky way or anything, just some confidence. There's nobody that moves like me, that's as tall as me."
Now, before you raise an eyebrow, let's break this down. Green wasn't trying to disrespect anyone—especially not Lamar Jackson, who happens to be a two-time NFL MVP and three-time First-Team All-Pro. Jackson is arguably the most dynamic quarterback the league has ever seen, and drawing any comparison to him is a massive compliment. But Green's point was about his physical profile: at 6-foot-6 and 230 pounds, he's built differently than Jackson (who's listed at 6-foot-2) or Josh Allen (who checks in around 260 pounds). He was simply saying that his combination of height, weight, and mobility is rare.
It's easy to see where Green was going. Rookie quarterbacks need confidence to survive in the NFL, and Green has that in spades. But mentioning Lamar Jackson's name in any comparison is a high-wire act. Jackson has redefined what's possible at the position, and Green knows he has a long way to go before earning that kind of respect.
The Browns selected Green in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, adding him to a quarterback room that already includes Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders. Rookie minicamps are all about first impressions, and Green made sure his was memorable. Whether he can back up that confidence on the field remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: this rookie isn't afraid to aim high.
