Instead, they traded the pick to the Jaguars, who eagerly scooped up the generational prospect.
At the time, many wondered if Cleveland had made a monumental mistake by passing on a player with such unique potential. However, one season later, the Browns' decision is looking increasingly savvy. Recent reports suggest Hunter will transition to being a full-time cornerback in 2026, with his wide receiver duties only sprinkled in. If he isn't the revolutionary two-way star many envisioned, his value as the second overall pick comes into serious question.
In contrast, Cleveland's haul from the trade has solidified into a foundation for the future. In exchange for the pick, the Browns received the No. 5 and No. 36 selections in the 2025 draft, plus Jacksonville's 2026 first-rounder, which materialized as the 24th overall pick.
With the fifth pick, they selected Michigan defensive tackle Mason Graham, who immediately proved to be a disruptive force on the interior and looks like a long-term pillar for the defense. At No. 36, they grabbed Ohio State running back Quinshon Judkins, who is now the clear-cut starter in the backfield.
