The Cleveland Browns could be making a bold move in the 2026 NFL supplemental draft, potentially targeting Texas Tech Red Raiders quarterback Brendan Sorsby as a replacement for Shedeur Sanders. While the supplemental draft isn't guaranteed, if it happens in July, the Browns are reportedly among the teams scouting Sorsby closely.

According to 850 ESPN Cleveland's Tony Grossi, "The Browns are among the teams putting in work on Sorsby, per a source." This development comes after Sorsby was placed in a rehab program by Texas Tech following the discovery that he placed numerous bets over several years, dating back to his time with the Indiana Hoosiers and continuing through his Cincinnati Bearcats career.

To protect his eligibility and fend off potential suspension or expulsion, Sorsby has hired super lawyer Jeffrey Kessler. The Browns may not get the chance to replace Sanders, Dillon Gabriel, or Taylen Green with a 2026 NFL draft day two-caliber talent like Sorsby, but the quarterback's legal team is working hard to keep his options open.

As reported by USA Today's Matt Hayes, "Any potential eligibility lawsuit from Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby against the NCAA will be heard in the Lubbock District Court." Hayes added that Sorsby is still seeking a favorable answer from the NCAA before pursuing litigation, but with a compacted timeline, he needs an eligibility decision soon in case he must petition the NFL to be part of a supplemental draft.

This situation has Browns fans and quarterback room members alike watching closely. Shedeur Sanders, in particular, finds himself embroiled in his own controversy, sparked by his brother Shilo's biting comments in response to the Plain Dealer's Mary Kay Cabot. Cabot reported that Sanders isn't looking like QB1 material in Cleveland and shared the opinion that Deshaun Watson should define the team's future. With Sorsby potentially entering the mix, the Browns' quarterback depth chart could see some serious shake-ups this offseason.
