The Cleveland Browns' quarterback room is getting more crowded by the day—and more complicated. Despite already having a roster full of signal-callers with more questions than answers, the team is reportedly eyeing yet another arm: Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby, this time through the NFL Supplemental Draft.

According to ESPN Cleveland, citing NFL insider Tony Grossi, "The Browns are among the teams putting in work on Sorsby, per a source." The post on X asked, "Should the Browns consider Sorsby if he enters the NFL Supplemental draft?"

It's a clear sign that Cleveland still hasn't found a reliable starter from its current group—a mix of veterans and young talent, all with their own uncertainties. Adding Sorsby would only deepen the competition, and for a player like Shedeur Sanders, who's already fighting for snaps, that's another hurdle to clear.

Sorsby, a fifth-year senior, has taken a winding path to this point. He spent two seasons at Indiana (2022-2023) before transferring to Cincinnati for the next two years. On January 4, 2026, he announced a move to Texas Tech, but his college future is now in doubt.

Multiple reports indicate that Sorsby is under NCAA investigation for allegedly placing bets on Indiana football games during his freshman year. ESPN's Pete Thamel reported on April 27, 2026, that Sorsby is seeking treatment and could lose his NCAA eligibility permanently if it's proven he bet on his own team.

Despite the off-field concerns, Sorsby's on-field production has turned heads. Over his college career, he threw for more than 7,200 yards and 60 touchdowns, posting a 13-17 record as a starter. NFL draft analyst Dane Brugler even noted that Sorsby would have been the QB3 in this year's draft class if he had been eligible.

Tony Grossi added, "Brendan Sorsby could enter the supplemental draft if he is found guilty of NCAA betting violations."

For the Browns, the quarterback carousel keeps spinning. And with every new name added, the pressure inside the locker room only grows—especially for Sanders, who now faces even more competition for the starting job.
