The Browns know their opponents, and will have their schedule released on Thursday... here is what it means for Cleveland.

The Cleveland Browns are getting a much-needed reset after a tough 5-12 season in 2025. As the NFL schedule release approaches, there's plenty of reason for optimism in Cleveland: the Browns currently face the easiest strength of schedule in the entire league. Based on last season's opponents' win percentage, their slate sits at just .429, while the Chicago Bears have the hardest path at .550.

This isn't just luck—it's how the NFL masterfully designs its schedule. Unlike other major sports leagues, the NFL has largely avoided the tanking problem by rewarding teams based on their division finish. Where you land in your division determines who you face in those crucial matchup games the following year.

For the Browns, that means a favorable draw. Their 2026 opponents will come from three full divisions: the AFC North (twice), the AFC South, and the NFC South. Then they'll add matchup games against the NFC East, AFC East, and AFC West. Because Cleveland finished fourth in the AFC North, they'll face the last-place teams from those divisions—the New York Giants, New York Jets, and Las Vegas Raiders.

On paper, this is a major advantage. Getting the worst team from the AFC West instead of the Denver Broncos or Kansas City Chiefs? That's a huge break. But in reality, paper schedules mean very little. The NFL is a week-to-week, year-to-year league. Teams transform completely from one season to the next, and no one can predict how things will play out. Who knows—maybe Fernando Mendoza becomes the next Tom Brady?

What we do know is that Cleveland has already had a strong offseason, executing efficiently in free agency and positioning themselves for a bounce-back year. The full schedule drops Thursday at 8pm ET on ESPN and NFL Network, and Browns fans have every reason to be excited about what's ahead.
