The 5x National Champions are stepping up to the mat for a brand-new challenge. Brother Martin High School, a powerhouse in the cheerleading world, is set to compete in Division I at the 2027 National High School Cheerleading Championship in Orlando, FL. This move marks a significant shift for a program that has already carved its name into the history books.
Brother Martin has built an impressive legacy at the National High School Cheerleading Championship, bringing home the title five times: in 2020, 2021, 2024, 2025, and 2026. Their dominance spans two divisions—Medium Varsity Coed (2020, 2021, 2024) and Large Varsity Coed (2025, 2026). Now, the team is eyeing a fourth straight national championship, this time against stiffer competition in Division I.
"A new division doesn’t change who we are—it reveals it," said Blake Mulligan, head coach of Brother Martin High School cheer. "Our work ethic, our confidence, and our relentless pursuit of a 4th straight National Championship remain the same. We’ve built this program to compete with anyone, anywhere."
The team has historically competed in Division II, which includes schools with 1–1,399 students. Division I, by contrast, features programs with 1,400 or more students. Brother Martin's switch to Division I comes after a new rule was implemented for single-gender schools. The rule states that these schools must provide a letter from administration outlining how athletes from co-operative schools are eligible for athletics, with enrollment submitted for all schools represented on the team. Division classification details will be finalized in UCA Rules & Scoring updates set for late spring.
As an all-male school, Brother Martin draws athletes from three neighboring Catholic girls' schools, allowing the program to include those enrollment numbers for division placement. The team is excited for this new opportunity, but the focus remains on the goal at hand: bringing home another National Championship.
