The Denver Broncos will have pick No. 62 in this week’s NFL draft, and they’ve already telegraphed their approach. GM George Paton said last week that the Broncos have six potential candidates in mind that fall into the 45-75 range, and Luca Evans of the Denver Post did a break down of his “pick six” choices.
At least a couple of them are obvious possibilities who’ve been covered before (and covered to death in some cases), but others are less obvious, so let’s take a look at those.
So you knew this would start with a lineman, right? Burke is a “massive pre-draft riser,” according to Evans, although he was talking about Burke’s size, not the extent of his movement up the draft boards. He’s over 6’8” and has started at both tackle positions during his five-year collegiate career, and the Broncos have met with him at his Pro Day and done a Zoom call with him.
Evans quoted sources who had a third- or fourth-round grade on Burke, which would make him a reach at No. 62, but the writer also had no doubt that Burke would be off the board by the time the fourth round happens. Given the Broncos ability to develop offensively lineman lately and the age at some of their line spots, Burke would make a certain amount of sense even if his selection would disappoint the fan base.
Another non-sexy positional pick given the number of linebackers the Broncos have in the fold, but they do have a need inside, and according to Evans, Louis is a safety/linebacker hybrid who can provide the kind of coverage skills Dre Greenlaw couldn’t last year. He’s a little undersized against the run, but Louis also has the ball production the Broncos need on defense, as he had six interceptions across 2024 and 2025. He ranked in the top four in his position in every single speed and agility drill at the combine, which definitely makes him a Broncos kind of guy.
Landing Pregnon would require Pregnon to slide given that the teams he’s visited with all like him at his projected slot late in the first round or early in the second, but if he does drop he could be coming to Denver. The Broncos have already allocated a Top 30 visit with Pregnon, which means he’s on their radar as an outlier possibility.
Just for the sake of completion, the other three players Evans chose were tight end Eli Stowers, defensive tackle Caleb Banks and running back Mike Washington Jr.
