Jailson Silva said he plans on reapplying to be Brockton High's head football coach.

In a move that has the Brockton High football community buzzing, the school's head coaching position has been officially posted—just two years after hiring former player Jailson Silva to lead the program.

The job listing appeared on SchoolSpring early Tuesday, April 28, with applications due by midnight on Tuesday, May 12. As of Thursday morning, April 30, it remains the only high school coaching vacancy listed by the district. This timing is notable, coming nearly two years after Silva—a Brockton High graduate and former standout player—took the reins in July 2024, replacing former New England Patriots tight end and WEEI radio host Jermaine Wiggins, who stepped down after just one season.

Silva, who has confirmed to The Enterprise that he plans to reapply, has already made his mark. In his first two seasons, he guided the Boxers to back-to-back Division 1 state tournament appearances, posting an overall record of 8-13. Beyond the sidelines, Silva has been a fixture in the district for over a decade, currently serving as a behavior interventionist—a role that speaks to his deep commitment to the Brockton community.

So why is the job being posted now? According to Jordan Mayblum, director of communications for Brockton Public Schools, the listing is a procedural requirement under the district's agreement with the Brockton Education Association (BEA). "The position is required to be posted via agreement with the BEA," Mayblum explained, adding that it's standard practice for certain roles to be listed ahead of a new school year due to licensing requirements. This comes on the heels of a new contract between the district and the BEA, finalized in December and effective through August 2029.

The posting also follows a challenging period for the athletic department. Last month, at a March 17 school committee meeting, athletic director Kevin Karo announced the elimination of nine part-time roles, including five assistant coaching positions. These cuts underscore the financial pressures facing Brockton athletics, even as the football program aims to build on its recent playoff momentum.

For Silva and the Boxers, this is more than a routine job posting—it's a chance to continue a story of resilience and hometown pride. As the application deadline approaches, all eyes will be on who steps up to lead Brockton High into the next chapter.
