Selected at pick No. 141 in the fifth round of the 2026 NFL Draft, Ramsey was widely considered one of the top Day 2 safety prospects. So, landing him in the fifth round? That's a steal for Houston. Ramsey's journey to the NFL began at UCLA before transferring to USC in 2024. That's when he truly broke out, racking up 60 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, six pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and an interception. His 2025 season, however, was cut short by a knee injury suffered against Iowa on Nov. 15, finishing with 27 total tackles and two pass deflections. Despite the setback, his talent is undeniable.
What makes Ramsey special? He's an exceptional read-and-react defensive back who consistently identifies route combinations and receiver tells, then triggers to the football with precision. Zierlein notes that while Ramsey was adequate covering the slot in college, his short-area burst and athleticism might be tested at the pro level. He also needs to close downhill in run support with greater urgency from depth. On the bright side, his tackle-finishing saw massive improvement in 2025, though durability concerns linger after multiple missed games in consecutive seasons.
