The District 2 Singles Championships are set, and the brackets are stacked with talent after an exciting week of team finals. Leading the charge are two standout players: Abington Heights' Prayush Mallaiah and Wyoming Seminary's Billy Hall, who have earned the top seeds in their respective classes.

Freshman sensation Prayush Mallaiah is making waves in Class 3A. Undefeated this season, he secured the No. 1 seed after powering his team to a championship on Tuesday. The tournament kicks off Thursday at 9 a.m. at Wilkes University, with all eyes on this rising star. Mallaiah isn't alone in the spotlight—his teammate William Arp, also undefeated at No. 2 singles, lands the No. 2 seed, giving Abington Heights a formidable one-two punch.

In Class 2A, Billy Hall is back with a vengeance. After finishing as runner-up last season, he's now the top seed and ready to claim the title. His matches begin Thursday at 9 a.m. at Kirby Park, where the first three rounds will set the stage for Friday's semifinals and finals. Hall will have to navigate a deep field, including Holy Cross' Alex Harrison at No. 2 and MMI's Max Bleiler at No. 3.

The Class 3A bracket features some familiar names and fierce competitors. Wyoming Valley West's Gadgidas Reisinger is seeded third, followed by Scranton's Tom Bergman at No. 4. West Scranton's Matthew D'Augustine rounds out the top five, while Valley View's Nick Burak holds the No. 6 spot. All seeded players in this class earned byes into the second round, so expect some intense matchups as the tournament progresses.

Class 2A's first round is packed with must-see clashes. Honesdale's Lewis Smith, seeded fifth, takes on Lake-Lehman's Tyler Matreselva. Wyoming Seminary's Dhru Sudhakar, seeded sixth, faces Tunkhannock's Martin Ortiz. North Pocono's Billy Barker, seeded seventh, meets Mid Valley's Ethan Johnson, while Dallas' Nate Linnen, seeded eighth, goes up against Mid Valley's Gabriel James. With byes for the top four seeds, the path to the finals is wide open.

Looking ahead, the District 2 Doubles Tournament starts May 13 at Wilkes University for Class 3A and Kirby Park for Class 2A. Semifinals and finals follow on May 14 at 1 p.m. at Kirby Park. Note that singles champions are not eligible to compete in doubles, so the doubles field will bring its own fresh energy.

Whether you're a fan of hard-hitting serves or crafty net play, this week's action promises high drama. Grab your gear, hit the courts, and cheer on these talented athletes as they chase district glory.
