Sunday evening brings a classic Bundesliga showdown as Borussia Mönchengladbach welcome Borussia Dortmund to town for Matchday 32. With the season winding down, both sides have plenty to play for—especially the hosts.
Sitting 11th in the table, Gladbach can secure their top-flight status this weekend with a win over Dortmund, provided St. Pauli lose to Mainz. Even a draw would do the trick if St. Pauli fall and Wolfsburg fail to win at Freiburg. It's a high-stakes clash that could define their season.
Manager Eugen Polanski is expected to shake things up defensively. Kevin Diks looks set to replace Fabio Chiarodia in the back three, while Lukas Ullrich steps in for the suspended Jens Castrop, who saw red in last weekend's 0-0 stalemate with Wolfsburg. Up front, the attack should remain unchanged, and there's a major boost with Robin Hack returning from a long injury layoff.
"I was absolutely delighted," Hack said of his comeback. "Being back out on the pitch after such a long time was special. I'd missed it. My last proper appearance was in mid-September, so it really had been a long time."
On the other side, Borussia Dortmund have already locked in Champions League football for next season, following a commanding 4-0 win over Freiburg on Matchday 30. With that security, they can afford to rotate a bit.
Young Italian talent Luca Reggiani is expected to start in place of the doubtful Ramy Bensebaini, who's nursing a foot injury. Yan Couto is also out with illness. Samuele Inácio has impressed enough to keep his spot, and Carney Chukwuemeka looks likely to get the nod over Julian Brandt in midfield.
Predicted Line-ups:
Borussia Mönchengladbach: Nicolas – Sander, Elvedi, Diks – Scally, Reitz (c), Engelhardt, Stöger, Ullrich – Honorat, Tabaković
Borussia Dortmund: Kobel – Reggiani, Anton, Schlotterbeck (c) – Ryerson, Sabitzer, Bellingham, Beier – Chukwuemeka, Inácio – Guirassy
