Bologna midfielder Lewis Ferguson is ready to test himself at the highest level, with his agent confirming the Scotland international is open to a move to the Premier League or a bigger Serie A club this summer.

Speaking to TuttoMercatoWeb, agent Bill McMurdo revealed that Ferguson—who still has two years left on his contract—is eager to explore new challenges. "Lewis has two years left on his contract. We will meet with the club shortly to assess whether they wish to offer him a contract extension or whether they prefer to let him expire," McMurdo said.

Since joining Bologna from Aberdeen for just €2 million in 2022, the 26-year-old has become a cornerstone of the Rossoblù midfield. Now approaching his fourth season in Italy, Ferguson has proven himself one of the most consistent midfielders in Europe's top five leagues. His current deal pays him €1.28m per year, with the club holding an option to extend.

"Lewis is more than ready to play for one of Italy's so-called big clubs should they show interest and Bologna be willing to let him go," McMurdo added. "He wants to play at the highest possible level and continue to grow in his career. He would consider offers from any of the top five footballing countries, with Italy and England as top picks."

Ferguson's development was temporarily stalled by a cruciate ligament tear that sidelined him for most of 2024 and cost him a spot at the European Championship with Scotland. That injury gave potential suitors pause, as clubs waited to see how he recovered from such a career-altering setback. But this season, Ferguson has answered those questions emphatically, delivering consistent performances that prove he has fully put the ACL issue behind him.

With defensive midfielders in short supply heading into the summer transfer window, Ferguson's availability could spark significant interest. As McMurdo put it: "Lewis is more than happy to remain in Bologna, but he is equally ready to take on any new challenges to advance his career. However, any transfer should be beneficial for all parties."
