When you think of elite athletes, you might picture them dominating a single sport. But Adele Nicoll? She's rewriting the rulebook—and now she's bringing that winning mindset to the fairways of Wales.

The 29-year-old from Welshpool has just been appointed as the new non-executive director for high performance at Wales Golf. It's a move that blends her deep understanding of elite competition with a family connection to the sport. And with a master's degree in clinical neuroscience under her belt, Nicoll isn't just strong—she's smart.

"I'm incredibly proud to share that I've been appointed as the new non-executive performance director of Wales Golf," Nicoll shared on social media. "I have spent the last 15 years as an athlete in elite environments. I'm looking forward to working alongside Wales Golf to help their performance environment thrive."

That 15-year journey is nothing short of extraordinary. Nicoll is the reigning British shot put champion, having won her third national title in 2025, and she finished eighth for Wales at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. But she didn't stop there.

In the summer of 2020, she jumped into bobsleigh—literally. She made her World Cup debut as a brakewoman in Igls, Austria, in November 2021, and just two months later, she and pilot Mica McNeill claimed World Cup silver in Sigulda, Latvia. That performance earned her a spot as a reserve athlete for the Beijing Winter Olympics in February 2022.

But Nicoll wasn't content to just ride along. She switched to the pilot's seat and began making waves in monobob. At the 2026 Milan Cortina Games, she made history as the first British woman to compete in an Olympic monobob race, finishing 18th before placing 15th in the two-woman bobsleigh alongside Ashleigh Nelson.

Now, with that Olympic chapter closed, Nicoll has her sights set on a Commonwealth double. She's back in training for the shot put, aiming to represent Wales at this year's Glasgow Games. Whether she's hurtling down an ice track or launching a metal ball across a field, Nicoll's drive is unstoppable—and Wales Golf is about to get a serious performance boost.
