Bob Myers is stepping into the spotlight once again—this time with the Philadelphia 76ers. The architect of four NBA championship teams in Golden State is now tasked with reshaping a Sixers franchise that has been stuck in neutral for far too long.

On Tuesday, the Sixers parted ways with president of basketball operations Daryl Morey after six seasons, just days after a second-round sweep at the hands of the Knicks ended their playoff run. The move signals a new direction for a team that has consistently fallen short of expectations.

Myers, who joined Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment as president in October, will lead the search for Morey’s replacement while running the front office in the interim. The umbrella company also owns the NHL’s New Jersey Devils and holds stakes in the NFL’s Washington Commanders and Premier League club Crystal Palace.

Head coach Nick Nurse appears safe for now, despite the shakeup at the top. Meanwhile, NBA insider Jake Fischer reports that former Warriors star and current NBPA executive director Andre Iguodala—a Myers protégé in Golden State and a former Sixer—will not be considered for the GM role.

The Sixers have a promising young core in Tyrese Maxey and rookie V.J. Edgecombe, but the roster is weighed down by over $230 million owed to aging stars Joel Embiid and Paul George, both of whom have struggled with injuries. On the bright side, Philadelphia is projected to be $26.2 million under the first apron this summer and controls its own draft picks for the next seven seasons, plus an unprotected 2028 first-rounder from the Clippers.

Myers’ track record speaks for itself. During his tenure with the Warriors, he built a dynasty: drafting Klay Thompson at No. 11 in 2011, snagging Draymond Green at No. 35 in his first year as GM, and pairing them with Stephen Curry. He famously signed Kevin Durant in 2016 and filled out the roster with savvy, high-value additions like JaVale McGee, David West, and Iguodala.

The Sixers haven’t advanced past the second round since Allen Iverson led them to the 2001 NBA Finals. With Myers at the helm, the question isn’t just who will be the next GM—it’s whether Philadelphia can finally build a roster worthy of a championship run.
