When baseball and community come together, the results can be truly inspiring. The 12th annual BNL Stars vs Cancer game proved just that, as the Bedford North Lawrence and Mitchell high school baseball teams joined forces for a cause that transcends the diamond.

Held on Friday, May 8, at the BNL baseball field, the event aimed to raise $6,000 for the Lawrence County Cancer Patient Services (LCCPS). But the community's generosity stepped up to the plate in a big way, with the final tally reaching $7,000—a $1,000 surplus that will make a meaningful difference for local cancer patients and their families.

On the field, the action was just as compelling. The BNL Stars delivered a dominant performance, shutting out the Mitchell Bluejackets with an 11-0 victory. The win improved BNL's season record to 8-8, while Mitchell fell to 8-7 overall and 4-1 in the Patoka Lake Athletic Conference.

Both teams carried that momentum into tough conference matchups on Monday, May 11. Mitchell faced Perry Central on the road at Leopold, while BNL hosted Hoosier Hills Conference rival New Albany at home.

This annual game has become a cherished tradition, blending the thrill of high school baseball with a powerful mission. Whether you're a player, a fan, or someone who simply loves seeing sports make a real-world impact, events like these remind us why we wear our team colors with pride—and sometimes, for something much bigger than the scoreboard.
