In a wild, back-and-forth battle that had everything but the kitchen sink, the Blooming Prairie softball team showed incredible grit on Tuesday, overcoming a staggering nine errors to outlast Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton (12-7 overall) in an eight-inning slugfest, 15-14.
The Awesome Blossoms (4-13 overall) may have struggled in the field, but their bats were on fire when it mattered most. Ellie Stoen was the star of the show, crushing two doubles and driving in four RBIs to lead the offensive charge. Her clutch hitting kept the team in the game, especially during the tense extra innings.
On the mound, it was a tale of two pitchers. Raylee Miner got the start, throwing 1 1/3 innings, allowing 2 hits and 4 walks while surrendering 10 runs—though only 2 were earned. Aubree Johnson came on in relief and earned the win, pitching 6 2/3 gutsy innings. She allowed 5 hits and 7 walks, giving up 4 runs (3 earned) while striking out 1, showing resilience under pressure.
The lineup was a well-oiled machine, with multiple players stepping up. Kenley Bangert was a force at the plate, going 4-for-6 with a double, 2 RBIs, and a run scored. Neila Nelson chipped in with a 3-for-5 performance, driving in 2 runs. Grace Anderson showed great patience, reaching base four times on 3 walks and a hit, scoring 4 runs. Annika Schwarck added 3 RBIs on a 2-for-5 day, while Bella Schiller collected 2 hits, including a double, and scored twice. Madelyn Harvey was also solid, going 1-for-4 with 2 runs and 2 walks.
For a team that has faced its share of struggles this season, this win was a testament to never giving up—and a reminder that in softball, as in sports apparel, it's all about staying resilient and ready for the next pitch.
