Outfielder Blake Perkins delivered a clutch two-run, go-ahead single in the fourth inning in the Brewers' 4-3 win over the Yankees on Mother's Day.

There are moments in baseball that transcend the box score, and Blake Perkins delivered one of those on Mother's Day. The Milwaukee Brewers outfielder, who lost his mother Carisa Sharrett to colon cancer last July, stepped up in a big way—smacking a clutch two-out, two-run single in the fourth inning to help his team secure a 4-3 victory over the New York Yankees.

Perkins wasn't even supposed to be in the lineup. He was bound for Triple-A Nashville until an injury to Brandon Lockridge opened the door. But as Perkins put it, "things happen for a reason." And on a day filled with emotion—pink bats, wristbands, and tributes across the league—he found a way to honor his mom in the most fitting way possible: by coming through when it mattered most.

"Just grateful I got to play today," Perkins said. "Obviously to come through in that spot is great. But yeah, it's been a lot of emotions for me today—mostly joy and just getting to play for my mom."

The game didn't start smoothly for Milwaukee. They trailed 2-0 heading into the fourth inning against Yankees left-hander Carlos Rodón. But a walk to William Contreras, another to Gary Sánchez, and a hit-by-pitch to Andrew Vaughn loaded the bases. Garrett Mitchell cut the deficit to one with a sacrifice fly, setting the stage for Perkins. On the third pitch he saw, he lined a two-run single up the middle, flipping the lead to the Brewers and setting up Brice Turang's eventual walk-off heroics.

For Perkins, the pre-game moments were the hardest. "It's the first year I've celebrated this holiday without her," he shared. "But once the game started, it was all good. I felt her here with me."

In a sport where Mother's Day is celebrated with pink gear and heartwarming stories, Perkins' performance was a reminder that the game is about more than wins and losses—it's about playing for something bigger. And on this day, he played for his mom.
