
Biggersville’s McKinsey Coleman and Kossuth’s Ayden Wilbanks have been voted Daily Journal Athletes of the Week for April 12-18.
Coleman, a pitcher for the softball team, allowed just one run, no hits with 17 strikeouts and three walks over nine innings pitched in a two-game playoff sweep of Hickory Flat. At the plate, she went 2 for 6 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored. Coleman earned 70.6% of the vote in the Female Athlete of the Week Twitter poll, beating out Nettleton’s Chloe Humble and Ingomar’s Tyrani Jones.
Wilbanks, a pitcher and first baseman, was 5 for 6 with a double, a home run, six RBIs and six runs scored in a two-game playoff sweep of Coahoma County. On the mound, he allowed zero runs on zero hits, struck out eight and walked none in three innings. Wilbanks received 62.7% of the vote in the Male Athlete of the Week poll. The other nominees were Tupelo Christian’s Jax Coker and Vardaman’s Jack Moore.
