The countdown to the 2026-27 college basketball season has officially begun for Illinois Fighting Illini fans. On Tuesday, the Big Ten Conference unveiled the 20-game league schedule for each team, giving us an early look at the matchups that will shape next season.

Illinois will enjoy a balanced slate, with three familiar foes coming to Champaign and also hosting the Illini on their home courts. Northwestern, Purdue, and Wisconsin will each face Illinois twice—once at the State Farm Center and once on the road. That's a classic Big Ten rivalry setup that always brings extra intensity.

When it comes to home-court advantage, the Illini will welcome a powerhouse lineup to the State Farm Center. Fans can look forward to seeing Iowa, Michigan State, Nebraska, Ohio State, Penn State, UCLA, and USC. That's a mix of traditional Big Ten giants and the new West Coast additions, making for some must-watch showdowns.

On the flip side, Illinois will hit the road for challenging away games at Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Oregon, Rutgers, and Washington. Traveling to places like Assembly Hall and the Crisler Center is never easy, but it's part of what makes Big Ten basketball so thrilling.

Coming off a stellar 2025-26 campaign where they tied for second in the conference with Nebraska and Michigan State, the Illini earned a No. 4 seed in the Big Ten tournament. They then caught fire in the NCAA tournament, reaching the Final Four and finishing with an impressive 28-9 record. That momentum should carry over nicely.

Looking ahead, the roster is shaping up to be formidable. Several key players are set to return, headlined by 6-foot-9 forward David Mirkovic. Also coming back are Tomislav Ivisic, Zvonimir Ivisic, and Jake Davis. While Andrej Stojakovic has announced his return, the 6-7 guard is currently testing the NBA Draft waters, so his status remains a storyline to watch.
