The Blooming Prairie baseball team suffered a tough setback on the road Tuesday, falling 12-5 to Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton. The turning point came in the fifth inning, when the Blossoms allowed eight runs to break open what had been a competitive game.
Despite the loss, senior Gabe Staloch delivered a standout performance at the plate, crushing both a double and a triple while driving in two runs and scoring once. His extra-base hits were bright spots in an otherwise challenging afternoon for the Blossoms, who now sit at 14-4 overall.
On the mound, starter Carsten Ingvalson took the loss after working 4 1/3 innings, surrendering 12 hits and nine earned runs while striking out two. Bradley Boyd provided relief, tossing 1 2/3 innings and allowing two earned runs with two strikeouts.
Offensively, several Blossoms contributed hits. Lukas Denherder went a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate and drew two walks, while Jaxon Studer drove in two runs and reached base three times with a hit and two walks. Jaxon Meier and Kelvin McCarthy each added a hit and scored a run, and Eliot Gimbel also crossed the plate once.
The Blossoms will look to bounce back quickly as they continue their season, aiming to build on their strong 14-4 record and sharpen their focus for the stretch run.
