Pierce Bierlink's journey from the Quincy Jacks to the Whitworth Pirates is a classic story of hard work meeting opportunity. The high-scoring guard has officially committed to continue his basketball career at the collegiate level, fulfilling a dream he's nurtured since first picking up a ball.
"It's a lot of blood, sweat and tears. I've been playing basketball since before I can remember," Bierlink said, encapsulating the dedication required to reach this milestone.
His path to a commitment wasn't without its anxious moments. Entering his senior year, the recruiting landscape was quiet. "I was actually really nervous, because my first couple weeks, I didn’t really have anyone talking to me," he admitted. That all changed with a signature performance that put him squarely on the map: a 50-point eruption against Yakima that announced his talent to a wider audience.
The explosion sparked serious interest, including from the Whitworth Pirates. The program already had a familiar feel, as his father and coach, Scott Bierlink, is a Whitworth alumnus. A visit to a Pirates game sealed the deal for Pierce. "That environment was super fun to be in... I think that’s kind of what led me to now," he explained, drawn to the program's winning culture and tight-knit community.
Bierlink leaves Quincy High School as a bona fide legend. His career averages of 32 points, six rebounds, and three assists only tell part of the story. He owns a monumental 64-point game against Toppenish and finishes as the program's all-time leading scorer with 2,224 points, shattering a record that stood for nearly five decades. His trophy case includes four first-team All-League honors and a league MVP award.
Reflecting on his son's growth, Coach Scott Bierlink highlighted the relentless work ethic behind the stats. "He's been in the gym since he was two years old... He's just always loved the game, and he's worked." That foundational passion and grind have now paved the way for the next chapter in Spokane, where Pierce Bierlink will look to make an immediate impact for the Whitworth Pirates.
