In a statement, the BCB said the charges came after investigations carried out by the Bangladesh Cricket Board Integrity Unit (BCBIU). The probe looked into alleged corrupt conduct, betting activities, lack of cooperation in anti-corruption investigations and attempts to obstruct investigations linked to the BPL.

The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) has been rocked by major betting and corruption allegations, with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) taking swift action by suspending multiple individuals. In a statement released Thursday, the BCB confirmed that several players, team officials, franchise owners, and other participants have been charged with violating various provisions of the ICC Anti-Corruption Code during the 12th edition of the tournament.

The charges stem from investigations conducted by the Bangladesh Cricket Board Integrity Unit (BCBIU), which focused on alleged corrupt conduct, betting activities, failures to cooperate with anti-corruption investigations, and attempts to obstruct investigations linked to the BPL. The BCB detailed that the probe uncovered "alleged betting-related activities, corrupt approaches, failures to comply with Demand Notices, concealment and deletion of relevant communications, and failures to cooperate with the Designated Anti-Corruption Official."

Among those charged is Md Lablur Rahman, a team manager, who faces allegations under Article 2.4.6 for failing or refusing to cooperate with an investigation and not complying with a demand notice. He is also charged under Article 2.4.7 for obstructing or delaying an investigation, including the concealment, deletion, or destruction of relevant information and communications. Similarly, Md Towhidul Haque Towhid, a franchise co-owner, faces the same two charges.

Domestic cricketer Amit Mojumder and team manager Rezwan Kabir Siddique have been charged under Article 2.2.1, which relates to placing or entering bets on matches. These developments mark a significant crackdown on corruption in the BPL, sending a strong message about the importance of maintaining the integrity of the game. For fans and players alike, this serves as a reminder that cricket's governing bodies are committed to rooting out any misconduct that threatens the spirit of the sport.
