The Bengals were ready to move up.

The Cincinnati Bengals are making it clear—they're not messing around this offseason. Fresh off a blockbuster trade for star defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence II, the team was ready to pull off another deal with the New York Giants, according to behind-the-scenes footage from the Giants' "Giants Life" video series.

The target? Cashius Howell, the reigning SEC Defensive Player of the Year. After Howell surprisingly slipped past his hometown Kansas City Chiefs in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft, the Bengals pounced. But they weren't leaving anything to chance. The footage reveals that Cincinnati had a trade offer on the table to move up from pick No. 41 to the Giants' No. 37 spot—just to secure Howell.

Here's where it gets interesting: New York had their eyes on cornerback Colton Hood at No. 37. But if Hood was off the board, the Giants were open to trading back. The Bengals, along with the New Orleans Saints (pick No. 42) and the Detroit Lions (who offered picks 118, 128, and 157 to jump from 50 to 37), were all in the mix. In the end, both teams got their guys—Hood went to New York, and Howell landed in Cincinnati.

This move is just the latest sign of a new, aggressive mindset in the Bengals' front office. They traded the 10th overall pick for Lawrence, made a Day 3 trade to add an extra fourth-rounder, and were clearly ready to climb the board on Day 2. The urgency is real. The aggression is undeniable. Now, the question is whether all this bold maneuvering will translate into a return to the postseason.

For Bengals fans, the message is simple: this team is going for it.
