Cody Bellinger put on a show at Yankee Stadium on Saturday, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two home runs and four RBIs to lead the New York Yankees to a dominant 9-4 victory over the Baltimore Orioles. The win marked the Yankees' 12th in their last 14 games, pushing them to a season-best 11 games above .500 at 22-11.
Bellinger's power display came on a pair of sliders, first taking Kyle Bradish deep in the second inning to put New York ahead, then adding another solo shot off Keegan Akin in the fifth to extend the lead to 6-1. It was his second multi-homer game of the season and the 21st of his career. He wasn't done there, also lacing an RBI double in the third and an RBI single in the seventh to cap off a monster afternoon at the plate.
The Yankees' offense didn't stop with Bellinger. Trent Grisham crushed a two-run homer in the fourth inning, and Jazz Chisholm Jr. chipped in with a run-scoring single in the seventh as New York's lineup continued to click on all cylinders.
On the mound, Ryan Weathers delivered a solid outing, allowing just three runs (one earned) on three hits and two walks over five-plus innings. With Carlos Rodón and Gerrit Cole working their way back from injuries, Weathers is making a strong case to stay in the rotation. As a unit, Yankees starters now boast a major league-best 2.62 ERA.
For the Orioles, the loss was their third straight, and they fell to 0-7 against left-handed starters this season. Peter Alonso provided a bright spot with his second consecutive home run, his sixth of the year and fourth in nine games, in his first trip back to New York since leaving the Mets for Baltimore in the offseason.
The game had a brief moment of confusion when the Yankees had to pause their celebration as Blaze Alexander unsuccessfully appealed a called third strike, but it did little to dampen the mood for a team that looks every bit like a contender.
