Bears head coach Ben Johnson shared his thoughts on the team releasing 2025 draft pick Zah Frazier.

The Chicago Bears have officially parted ways with cornerback Zah Frazier, and head coach Ben Johnson is making no apologies for the decision. The team released the 2025 fifth-round draft pick on Thursday, bringing a swift end to what was a short and complicated tenure in the Windy City.

Speaking at the start of rookie mini camp, Johnson didn't mince words when addressing Frazier's departure. "When we look at the roster, where he was at, and where we were at, it was time to part ways," Johnson said, per Zack Pearson of Bear Report. "We were hopeful, and it just wasn't going that direction. The trajectory was off, and so we decided to go in a different direction."

Selected out of UTSA, Frazier was originally brought in to bolster the Bears' secondary depth. However, personal issues kept him from playing a single snap during training camp or the regular season last year. While there was some optimism that he could contribute in 2026, that momentum never materialized. Now, Frazier becomes the first member of the Bears' 2025 draft class to be released.

For Bears fans looking ahead, the cornerback competition is already heating up. With Frazier out of the picture, players like Malik Muhammad, Terell Smith, and Jaylon Jones will battle for snaps this summer alongside projected starters Jaylon Johnson and Tyrique Stevenson. It's a reminder that in the NFL, roster spots are earned—not given—and every rep counts.
